Varanam aayiram, the latest offering from the ace director Gautham vasudev menon. The film is more of an auto-biography of the director himself. This is a film that deals with the sequence of events that happened in the director’s life. Most importantly the wonderful relationship with his father. This film is a tribute from Gautham to his late father. So, it’s very well understood that the film is about the father and son relationship, and other incidents happened in the son’s life.
But, when one goes to the theatre to watch the film, one get’s an impression that the screenplay in the movie gives more importance to romantic part of the film, than the father son relationship. I mean, in the original screenplay the chemistry between romantic pair in the film (surya, sameera) have been worked out very well. But the sad part of the film is that there is no chemistry between the father and son, about whom the film is all about. That too when the father surya dies, it could have been a little bit more emotional. To tell the truth, it was more a romantic film than a film about a father and son relationship. So, my personal view is that we can watch the film for its romantic part than for the actual.Mr.menon could have done better.
